Site Name: PPC De Hoek
Date: January 2023
Team was mobilized to the PPC De Hoek plant to conduct NDT inspections to 3 pipe stacks, namely; Exhaust Stack, Hot Gas Riser and Conditioning Tower. The result of the NDT tests were then provided to the client who indicated critical areas where additional plating needed to be installed to ensure the longevity of the vessel structure.
NDT process used was UTM (Ultrasonic Thickness Measurements). This process allows the user to identify the current thickness of steel and measuring against the original designed thickness, a decision could be made whether the structure requires new plate.
For welding works, teams were using normal stick welding process. With some of the welding being performed on ropes, it was more practical to use this process due to it’s compact requirements and ease of mobility.
Works also involved confined space entry. To ensure the environment was safe for work, operators were required to have on them an active gas monitor for the purpose of monitoring O2 and CO levels.
Scope of works included:
- Performing NDT (UTM) inspections on tower stacks.
- Welding of plates where requested by client.
- Confined Space Entry
